I must find O Zen Master in the hills somewhere, I must find the Great Spirit in the wilderness (well, that’s probably the most likely place that you’ll actually find what you’re looking for, anyway.) But you don’t have to go anywhere to become awakened. You don’t have to go to India. You don’t have to find some guru. You don’t have to have the most amazing peak spiritual experience that surpasses all understanding. You don’t need to hike to the top of Mount McKinley, or Denali, or whatever is the big mountain everybody wants to hike to the top of. You don’t have to go anywhere. Enlightenment is right here, right now, within you. No one is going to give it to you. You can sit at the feet of various teachers, and read various books, and watch certain movies, practice certain techniques, but really, the enlightenment is always here, right now. All you have to do is open yourself to what’s already here.

What have you been looking for, all this time? What is it for that you flit to this workshop or that workshop, to this country and that country, and look at this guru and that one, and read this book, read that one? What is it that you are looking for? What is it that you want?

It’s you that you’re looking for. YOU! You’re the one you’re looking for, and no one can give that to you, but you! And you can do that right here, right now, wherever you are; sitting here at your desk with your computer, sitting in your recliner, watching TV, whatever you’re doing right now, you can have that here and now. You don’t need some blessing from someone, you don’t need to eat a special piece of food, there’s no magic crystal, there’s no labyrinth you must find a secret entrance out of, or exit. It is not a big secret at all. It’s all right here in front of you, in yourself. Not even in front of you, it’s IN you, inside you. (Language is a funny thing.)

It’s right here; don’t go anywhere. If you feel the urge to zing off here or there, stop! Ask yourself, is this something you can actually find right here, right now. Just close your eyes and go within, and the Universe is everywhere. It’s huge in there, right in here, oh my goodness, it’s so huge! It’s vast, bigger than the Universe.

So sit still, and go within. If you want to run around outside in the world to find out who you are, do it if it’s fun but that’s not where you’re going to find yourself. You’re going to find yourself in here, and you can only do that by sitting quietly with yourself, and closing out the outside world, and really observing, what is inside this huge thing called ‘me?’ It’s very big in there, you know, a lot of ground to travel. Many universes; more than one… so check it out for yourself!
